You guys look great!!! Is the t-shirt "Find.Com" a new business/marketing deal or just a novelty?

Response from Gene:

Yes, indeed. Find.Com is a new client of our SIMMONS ABRAMSON venture. As you know, we also represent/brand/market the INDYCAR SERIES, including the INDY 500. Maybe it's time for Find.Com to do a press release announcing us. I think I'll make sure they do.

Gene Simmons Axe Guitar controller
by Brian Osborne

I must come out and finally admit it. I’m a huge Guitar Hero fan. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the fascination in buying custom guitar controllers; at least not until now. I think I have come across one of the “baddest” guitar controllers of all time. That’s because it’s a replica of the famous Gene Simmons axe guitar while he was with the band KISS.

The Gene Simmons Axe Guitar is for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 and will retail for US$79.99. It is expected to ship on November 15th and pre-orders for it are now being accepted by Amazon. If you are a KISS and a Guitar Hero fan then you’ve got to get your hands on this controller! I can’t think of a better Christmas gift.

Now if you’re a Rock Band fan no problem because the Gene Simmons Axe Guitar will work with that game too. It has a wireless range of up to 30 feet and is USB connect ready. Hey, if you’re going to act like a rock star you should probably look the part.

KISS Bass Guitar Controller Preview
Unleash your inner-Gene Simmons with this axe-shaped controller.

by Chris Iaquinta
October 30, 2008 - When it comes to the masters of Rock, no one can argue that KISS has rightfully earned their way into the exclusive pantheon of god-like musicians that defined an era. Their tracks are some of the most popular tunes among living room rockers on both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and now you can get taste of what its like to be legendary KISS bassist Gene Simmons, and it doesn't even require white makeup or a tongue as long as your arm.

Players now have their chance to get their hands on the Gene Simmons AXE Guitar Controller, a fully equipped, axe-shaped guitar controller compatible with PlayStation 2 and 3 Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Distributed by Kobian Canada, the controller is a highly detailed three-quarter sized replica of the KISS vocalist's signature bass guitar, and is slightly larger overall than other guitar controllers on the market.

Easily the meanest looking video game guitar available, the AXE comes customized with a replicated paint finish of the original edition of the AXE guitar. Gene Simmons' autograph and an artist rendition of the famous KISS face logo have also both been painted into the body of the controller for extra visual flair.

The AXE Guitar carries the same basic features of its counterparts, including:

2.4 GHz guitar controller
Compatible with Guitar Hero and Rock Band for PlayStation 2 and 3
Easy-to-use control to switch between games
Wireless range up to 30 feet
Five fret and narrow fret buttons
Fully functioning whammy bar
Durable strum bar
USB connect ready

With a release date of November 15th and a Wii edition scheduled for later this year, the Gene Simmons Axe Guitar controller is great for console musician's looking to rock and roll all night and party every day.

The guitar retails for $79.99 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com.

SIMMONS RECORDS TO BE RELAUNCHED

I am closing in on two, separate offers to relaunch my SIMMONS RECORDS label. When I've decided which offer I'll accept, you'll read it here first.
For those of you in bands who have demos (demonstration tapes), please don't send em.
I've received literally thousands upon thousands of demos over the years. There simply isn't enough time in the world to wade through it all.
The history of SIMMONS RECORDS dates back to Bob Buziak former head of RCA RECORDS. I signed HOUSE OF LORDS ( a name I trademarked and let Greg Giuffria use for his band), SILENT RAGE, a California rock band and GYPSY ROSE a Canadian rock band RCA wanted to release through my label.
Music was going through a revolution and Grunge and Seattle snuffed out most of the rock bands of the day. I went on record then and stand by what I said: Though the bands coming out of Seattle were certainly valid, the tone and self destructive nature of it was not. Seattle would be the death of most rock bands. And, it was. What followed was the saddest period in Rock I can remember.
Gone were rock shows. Gone were groupies. Gone was the Culture of Rock.
The bands that ignored Seattle and simply went on doing what they did best: Rock!!!....survived. And got bigger.
Seattle bands? Almost all are gone.
Back in the early 90's, I was also managing LIZA MINNELLI's recording career and got her a deal at Epic Records. Her record was produced by the Pet Shop Boys.
For the most part, I lost interest in fighting an uphill battle with my label. Then by early 2000, I met and liked the nice folks at Sanctuary and over there, I re-launched the SIMMONS RECORDS label for two releases: my solo album, ASSHOLE and a Canadian one-man-band named BAG. Eventually, Sanctuary went under and that forced us to shut our doors yet again.
This time, we have two majors who want to do this the right way.
And, we will.
As soon as more news comes, you'll see it here first.

On November 12th, I'll be Keynote Speaker at MEDIAWEEK's MEDIA ALL STARS Awards event in New York City.
On November 19th, I'm proud to announce I've been invited by the NY STOCK EXCHANGE to bang the gavel on the day's trading.
On November 20th, I'll be Keynote Speaker at the BILLBOARD CONVENTION, in New York City.

We will be filming all of the above for Season IV of GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS.

Kiss axe: Gene Simmons Guitar Hero controller

By Dong Ngo

Helloooo, England! Are you ready to rawk? No? How about stand around in your living room clicking a plastic guitar? Yes? Cool. To make the whole thing a little more authentic, Kobian has made a fully equipped, axe-shaped guitar controller for PlayStation Guitar Hero and Rock Band games.

The controller is a three-quarter replica of Kiss singer Gene Simmons' signature bass guitar, and is slightly larger than the standard videogame guitar controllers.

The Gene Simmons Axe controller is compatible with both PlayStation 2 and 3, with a Wii version out later this year. It's customised with a replicated paint finish of the original axe. Both Simmons' autograph and famous Kiss face are painted on to the body of the controller.

The device offers wireless range up to 10m, and has five fret and narrow fret buttons with a fully functioning whammy bar and a durable strum bar. It's also USB-connect ready.

No word on UK prices or availability, but the new controller will be available at the end of the month -- on Hallowe'en, appropriately enough -- for $80 (£50) at Amazon.com. Face paint not included.

Gene Simmons Axe guitar is a mitzvah

Young Chiam is at it again. His new product, the Axe Guitar for Playstation looks just like his real axe bass and even has Gene’s face and autograph printed on the front. Double sets of buttons encourage schlepping all over the freboard and it is wireless and USB ready. Best of all it has a durable strum bar because if you don’t have a strum bar what do you have? Bupkus.

AXE Overview:

The Gene Simmons AXE is a fully equipped, axe-shaped guitar controller compatible with PlayStation® 2 and 3 Guitar Hero™ and Rock Band™. A replica of the KISS bassist and vocalist’s signature bass guitar, the Gene Simmons AXE guitar controller is a three-quarter sized replica of the original AXE guitar and slightly larger than the standard video game guitar controllers. The wicked axe guitar, which is only compatible with the Playstation 2 and 3, also comes with a sticker of Gene Simmons' face and signature on the front. Expect to pay about $80 for this cool guitar when it goes on sale Friday, October 31 at Amazon.com. Anyone dressing up like Gene Simmons this Halloween?

Ultimate control: Gene Simmons' Axe Guitar
Works with Rock Band and Guitar Hero, unlike the 'official' kit

Here is our most wanted videogame controller of 2008 to date – the Gene Simmons' Axe Guitar controller.

This uber-guitar will let you rock out with both EA's Rock Band and Activision's Guitar Hero, which is more than can be said for some of the 'official' peripherals on offer right now.

Must-buy Kiss merch

For Kiss fans, this is clearly a must-buy item, as it features Gene Simmon's signature AND a picture of Mr Simmons pulling an angry rawk face on it.

It features the usual bits - a bi-directional strum bar, ultra-responsive fret buttons and an analogue whammy bar – but (and this is the real killer USP here!) it looks like a massive killer axe.

It is available later this week for $80 on Amazon.com for PS3, PS2 and Wii, but not for Xbox 360, somewhat surprisingly.

Posted by Sean Fallon
Whether you are a KISS fan or not, you have to admit that this Rock Band and Guitar Hero compatible replica of his signature bass is just...plain...awesome. Appropriately enough, it is set to be released on Halloween. [Amazon via Kotaku]

Gene Simmons: 60’s Fanzine Publisher

Gene today: At work!

Back in the 1960’s before KISS Gene Simmons was (and still is) a comic book and science fiction fan. In fact, he was so into the comic book and SF fandoms that as a young teenager he worked to earn money to purchase his own used mimeograph machine in order to begin producing his own fanzines. Not only did Simmons, who went by the name of Gene Klein after he and his mother emigrated to the USA in June 1958 at age eight (he was born Chaim Witz), produce his own amateur publications he also contributed to many others published by other enthusiasts.

Born in 1949, Simmons got into comic books and monster and science fiction magazines upon arriving in the USA as it helped him learn the language. Among some of the fanzines Klein (Simmons) edited and published during the 1960’s were Cosmos, Tinderbox, Adventure, Mantis, Faun and others. His most successful was Cosmos. Cosmos eventually merged with Stilletto fanzine becoming Cosmos-Stilletto with issue #7 and then with issue #13 he changed the title to Faun.

Gene during his high school
& fanzine days.
In addition to writing and drawing for his own fanzines, Klein (Simmons) also contributed articles and artwork for a variety of other fanzines including such titles as Bombshell (he had a regular column called ‘Hokum’), Comic Comments, Gore Creature, Dynatron, Ecco, Comic Feature, Splash Page, Men of Mystery, Spectre, Fantasy News, Exile, Iscariot, Ragnarok (I used to order that one!), Ray Gun, RBCC (another favorite of mine), Sanctum, Pulp Era, Web Spinner, One Step Beyond and a number of others.

Klein (Simmons) was most prolific with fanzines, his and others, primarily from 1966-1969.

Simmons commented a couple of times about his days of fanzine publishing on his website:

“Yes, these are fanzines (fan-magazines) I published and edited when I was around 14 years old out of my mom’s house. The content was sci-fi/comics — reviews, articles and so on. I published/edited a number of titles: COSMOS, COSMOSTILETTO (a merger with Stiletto fanzine), FAUN, TINDERBOX, ADVENTURE, MANTIS and a few others.”

Cosmos - an early Gene fanzine.
“I also edited a fanzine called MANTIS. Only about 100 were printed. I also had a column in a New Jersey fanzine called RAY GUN. There are more, but offhand, I can’t recall all of them (Note: See the list compiled above). I do have a box full of my old fanzines.”

“Nothing’s changed much. Back in my school days (around 7th grade through the 12th), I played in a rock band (Long Island Sounds, Lynx, and others). I was in the school choir. I acted in school plays. I published my own fanzines. And still had time for the girls.”

So I guess ‘The Demon’ and I had something in common, we both published fanzines in junior high school (and I owned some that he published and contributed to) and we both played bass guitar (although I gave that up a year or two after starting high school – the only thing I can play now with any ability is a jukebox). I guess that’s where the similarities end although I did dress up like him for Halloween 1976 with interesting results but that’s another story for another time (if the statue of limitations has expired!).

OBAMA's LOSS TRACED TO GENE SIMMONS video

Ok, folks. Everyone is so touchy about the forthcoming election. And for the record, I don't believe any celebrity should be using their bully pulpit to coerce their fans to vote either way. Remember, Al Queda doesn't care if you're a Democrat or Republican. They hate you all.
And, I refuse to tell anyone what my political leanings are. I agree with both parties on certain issues ad strongly disagree with both candidates on other issues.  What's needed here, is a bit of humor.
So, in that light, I offer the following video sent to me.
DO NOT take it to mean vote for either candidate.
It DOES mean, VOTE FOR EITHER CANDIDATE, but vote.

I just heard that Gene is due to come to Glendale Az. At Macfarland toys. on Nov 6 Can you supply more details. It would be great to see him.

Response from Gene:

Todd McFarlane and I have had a wonderful relationship and the KISS action figures his group made, as we all know, rocked.
Todd was kind enough to draw the premier issue of GENE SIMMONS HOUSE OF HORRORS (Simmons Comics Group/IDW Pub). And in return, I offered to go to Arizona and do a signing.
But a mishap occurred when his well intentioned staff were brought into this. Though they meant well, things occurred I never saw, nor okayed. One was a release of a press release without my approval. The other was that people had to buy $35 worth of goods in order to get an autograph. Now, while the above may or may not be an issue in and of themselves, the fact that I was never shown any of the details regarding my name and likeness is.
When Todd and I work one on one. It works. When inbetweeners come into it, it does not.
In short, the event has been cancelled.

Gene Simmons Chimes In On The Election

Everyone’s favorite outspoken rocker Gene Simmons made a rare cameo last night at the 'Role Models' movie premiere.

Given that the elections are right around the corner, we wanted to get Gene's take on the presidential candidates and who he'll be voting for.

"I would rather vote for me. I have as much qualification as some of the candidates," Gene told Hollyscoop exclusively. "Actually there are people who are out voting for me but the job doesn’t pay enough. We are going to be voting and I don’t think, by the way, celebrities should open their traps about anything except promoting their new stuff.

"Just because you’re in front of people doesn’t mean you’re qualified to do crap. I don’t want my foreign policy to be decided in Malibu…by Sean Penn for fucks sake…I mean that in a good way."

Do you guys agree with Gene? Do you think it hurts or helps candidates to have celebrities endorse them?

- Day 31 -

Very proud to let you all know that Nick, Gene's talented son, wrote some killer lyrics for a track that needed something special. Last night he sang in a studio in Burbank Ca, as he is on a short fall break from college. Jeremy and I were thrilled with his tone and passion, and wait till you all hear his unique voice. Will you be surprised he is Gene's son? Not really, you can hear some of the Demon's dark undertones in his voice. But his take on singing comes from a much bluesier place than you could guess from a 19 year old. Nick loves some serious blues singers like Skip James and artists that came from the deep south.

This makes his approach very unique, and as he keeps developing his musicianship, I feel he his potential is huge. He has teased Jeremy and I with some of the songs he is working on, and they are excellent and sound like no one I have heard. Having his style on a song that could best be described as being a slinky hard rock track that could of been on some of my later KISS discs, or one of the two UNION CD's, made a good track come alive. So the big question of could Nick deliver, has been answered in spades. I can't wait for you all to hear the results.

I will be recording my solos for this song very soon. "Hand of the King" is the title, based on some imagery that Nick has had in his head for quite a while he explained to me last night. Keep watching for more BK 3 posts soon! And of course, a special thanks to Nick Simmons and his friend Justin (who plays in Nick's band), for a productive evening of making great music.

I'd do reality TV from the grave - Gene

Gene Simmons loves doing his reality TV show so much he's promising to do it from beyond the grave!

Gene Simmons wants to do reality TV forever

The Kiss legend hit the red carpet in Los Angeles for the premiere of new comedy movie Role Models.

Speaking before the screening, the rocker joked that he enjoys making Gene Simmons: Family Jewels a bit too much, saying: "If I can make a deal where I can do it from the grave I would do that to, just put me in the coffin with all the cameras."

Gene added there's no easier way to make money than having your life filmed: "As opposed to working for a living? Come on!"

The rocker also revealed he'd be up for resurrecting his School Of Rock series - which saw him trying to turn a class of school children into a rock band - back on UK shores.

"I loved those kids, it was difficult to leave them because you get so attached and just like I said in the show, Lil Chris became a star didn't he?"

Happy Halloween Gene,

It's your resident film fanatic back again to thank you for and inform your readers about the great piece you wrote for the October Halloween issue of Rue Morgue Magazine. I just got mine in the mail and they should be available at the best bookstores, news stands and pop culture shops everywhere.

The cover story is a tribute to Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine creator Forrest J. Ackerman, or Uncle Forry to all of us who grew up loving monsters. The cover is even painted by the great monster artist Basil Gogos.

I was genuinely touched by your testimonial regarding how you discovered Uncle Forry and Famous Monsters as a boy, and how you began to understand was a "fan" really was. Coming from you, it's no small thing to declare: "Forrest J. Ackerman created Gene Simmons!"

I grew up a Monster Kid as well, first introduced to Dracula, Frankenstien and the Wolfman through a program called "Fright Night" which ran in Louisville from 1971-1975. Watching those films with my Grandfather in his favorite chair is one of my first and fondest memories, and likely shaped the man I am today. Of course, once the program stopped airing in 1975, I discovered this crazy band that wore monster make-up on stage and this kooky guy who spit blood and breathed fire!

And the cycle continues.

I want wish you, your family and the "fans" a very Happy Halloween!

Your Brother From Another Monster,

Rod Whitenack

After dinner he went to “Sunday School” at Aerial downtown and Monday night the rocker hit the honky tonks. GENE TALKS AND TALKS AND TALKS

By GRAHAM HICKS

You'll never guess who was in town Monday on the Timms Centre stage talking motivation, in his own inimitable way, to the youthful Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) group here in town.

Gene Simmons!

Yep, it was the humorous, self-assured entertainer and entrepreneur whose entertainment business empire has expanded far beyond his KISS rock band. His reality TV shows Family Jewels, Gene Simmons' Rock School and now Jingles have made Gene one of America's most recognizable characters.

Simmons was here just nine weeks ago as the honorary marshal of the Edmonton Indy - for which he handles the marketing. That was a breeze-through-wave-at-the-crowds appearance.

This time, it was Simmons face to face. For his $100,000 speaking fee, what did the younger entrepreneurs get? Multiple tips from the most confident person they'd ever meet, resplendent in his own style.

Simmons is so confident that he has transcended his rock-star persona to be a down-to-earth human being with a great sense of humour, who genuinely likes to talk to others.

It all came from his mom, says Gene. His 82-year-old mother survived the Holocaust, raised her only son in poverty in wartime Israel, separated from Gene's soldier dad, came to America and worked two factory jobs for the sake of her eight-year-old boy who didn't speak a word of English.

Somehow Gene became the hipster that studied, worked and played hard, saved his money, never got drunk or did drugs, then conceived - with KISS partner Paul Stanley - the "band we'd always wanted to see."
